Buying used gas blowback replicas
Gas blowback (GBB) replicas use green gas, propane or CO2 to fire the BB and cycle the slide or bolt, so you get recoil and a realistic manual of arms. They cover most airsoft pistols and a growing number of rifles (GBBRs) from makers such as WE, VFC, GHK, KSC/KWA and Tokyo Marui.
Gas performance drops as the temperature falls, which matters on a cold New Zealand morning. Many players keep CO2 magazines for winter or convert their favourite platform to HPA. Our green gas vs CO2 guide explains the difference. Budget for gas as an ongoing cost, and for spare magazines, which are pricier than AEG mags.
When buying used, ask whether the magazines hold gas overnight, because slow leaks are the most common fault. Check the nozzle, valves and bolt or slide for wear, and confirm which gas the seller has been running, since heavier gas or CO2 wears parts faster in some replicas.
You generally need to be 18 or over to buy or own an airsoft replica in New Zealand, or 16 and over with a firearms licence. See airsoft age limits and is airsoft legal in New Zealand?

Questions
How much do used gas blowback replicas cost in NZ?
On TradeSoft right now, most gas blowback replicas are listed at $250 to $700. Across the 81 that sold in the last 90 days, the middle asking price was $350. Condition, brand and upgrades move the price a lot, so compare similar listings before you buy or sell.
Is gas blowback good for beginners?
GBB is fun and realistic but costs more to run than an AEG and is more affected by cold weather. Many players start with an AEG rifle and a GBB pistol as a sidearm.
What should I check on a used GBB?
Ask if the magazines hold gas overnight, check for leaks at the valves, look at the nozzle and slide or bolt for wear, and ask for a firing video. Spare working magazines add real value.
