Buying used HPA replicas

HPA (high pressure air) replicas run from a compressed air tank through a regulator and line. Most are either an AEG body fitted with an HPA engine such as a PolarStar or Wolverine unit, or a gas platform converted to run on air. The appeal is very consistent shots, a crisp trigger response and FPS you can tune at the regulator.

The trade-off is the extra kit: a tank, regulator and line, plus somewhere to fill the tank. Dive shops and paintball venues commonly fill air tanks in New Zealand, so check what is near you before you buy, and make sure any tank you buy has a current test date.

Because HPA FPS is set at the regulator, ask the seller what pressure it chronos at and with which BB weight, and whether the field you play at has rules for HPA (some lock regulators or chrono more often). Check what engine and nozzle setup it uses, and whether the tank, reg and line are included or sold separately.

Questions

How much do used HPA replicas cost in NZ?

On TradeSoft right now, most HPA replicas are listed at $650 to $1,250. Across the 11 that sold in the last 90 days, the middle asking price was $800. Condition, brand and upgrades move the price a lot, so compare similar listings before you buy or sell.

What do I need to run an HPA airsoft gun?

An HPA tank, a regulator and an air line, plus somewhere to fill the tank. Many second-hand HPA listings include the tank and reg, which saves a lot over buying them separately.

Is HPA allowed at NZ airsoft fields?

Generally yes, but each field sets its own rules. Some ask for locked or tamper-proof regulators and may chrono HPA replicas more often. Check with the field before you go.
