Deleting your account
You can close your TradeSoft account whenever you like. Here's how to do it, exactly what happens to your data, and how to change your mind within 14 days.
How to delete your account
Open the app and go to Profile. Scroll to the very bottom and tap the small Delete account link. From there:
- Read the summary of what happens, then tap Continue.
- Confirm it's really you. Enter your password, or if your account has no password, choose Email me a code instead and enter the 6-digit code we send you.
- Type DELETE to confirm, then tap Permanently delete my account.
Deletion stays available even if your account is suspended, so you can always close it. If you have completed trades that are still waiting on feedback, the app warns you first, because deleting now means you won't be able to leave or receive feedback on them.
One thing works differently for a suspended account. Closing it removes it from TradeSoft and ends your access for good in the same way, but we keep the records connected to that suspension rather than erasing them, for as long as we need them. See section 11 of our Privacy Policy.
The 14-day grace period
Deleting your account doesn't wipe everything instantly. It starts a 14-day grace period. During that window your account is closed and your active listings are removed from the feed, but nothing has been permanently erased yet.
Change your mind? Just log back in during those 14 days. You'll land on a restore screen that shows how long you have left, with a Restore my account button. Restoring brings back:
- Your profile, feedback score and trade history.
- Your sold and expired listing history.
- Your message threads (they reopen).
- Any unused bump credits.
The one thing restoring does not do is re-post your active listings. They were pulled from the feed when you deleted, so you'll need to list them again.
What is deleted, anonymised and kept
We follow a "delete the person, keep the record" approach, so the trading history that other members rely on stays honest while your personal details are removed.
Deleted
- Your profile, listings and photos are permanently removed.
- Your saved watchlist is deleted.
- Your personal details (such as your name, email, phone and bio) are erased from our systems once the grace period passes.
Anonymised
- Your message history stays visible to the people you spoke with, but shows you as a deleted user.
- Feedback you left for others remains, without your name attached.
Kept
- We keep purchase records for 7 years, as required by New Zealand tax law.
For fraud prevention we may also retain a one-way, non-readable record of a banned email or phone so a barred user can't simply delete and re-register. This is covered in our Privacy Policy, which is the authoritative source for how we handle your data.
Data requests
If you'd rather request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data directly, email [email protected]. For the full detail on what we collect and how long we keep it, see the Privacy Policy.
