Buying used airsoft gear and apparel

Second-hand airsoft gear listed on TradeSoft: plate carriers and chest rigs, pouches and MOLLE, helmets and headwear, uniforms, boots and gloves. Kit is where the used market saves the most, because good load-bearing gear lasts for years and players change loadouts often.

For your first few games you need very little: rated eye protection, comfortable clothes and boots, and somewhere to carry a few magazines. Build the rest of your loadout over time. If you are buying eye protection, buy rated full-seal goggles or a mask, ideally new, and do not compromise on it.

When buying used kit, check sizes carefully (uniforms and plate carriers vary a lot between makers), look at buckles, stitching and velcro, and ask for photos of any wear. Replica plate carriers carry no armour, and helmets sold for airsoft are not protective equipment beyond the game.

Questions

How much do used airsoft gear and apparel cost in NZ?

On TradeSoft right now, most airsoft gear and apparel are listed at $40 to $140. Across the 29 that sold in the last 90 days, the middle asking price was $120. Condition, brand and upgrades move the price a lot, so compare similar listings before you buy or sell.

What gear do I need to start airsoft?

Rated eye protection, sturdy footwear and clothes you do not mind getting dirty. Many clubs hire replicas and goggles, so you can play before buying anything. A chest rig or pouches can come later.

Should I buy second-hand eye protection?

Eye protection is the one thing worth buying new. If you do buy used, make sure it is a rated full-seal goggle or mask with no cracks or scratches, and replace the lens if in doubt.
